About Sword Echoes
Sword Echoes began with a simple idea: the best way to understand fencing is to look closely at what actually happens when two people cross swords.
The channel combines two things. Match reviews break down real bouts so fencers can learn from their own footage and from others'. The blog steps back to think about the art itself: the historical treatises, how we interpret them, and how the modern HEMA community is growing and changing.
The goal is honest, constructive analysis that respects both the sources and the people fencing today.
Indes
Hold to stretch one tempo.
A tempo is the time it takes to make one action. Press and hold the bar to stretch one out. Let go and it snaps back to speed.
Press and hold to stretch the tempo and reveal its three phases.
- Vor
The one who acts first sets the terms.
- Indes
The instant. Feel the bind and decide.
- Nach
The one who answers. Behind by a breath, or ahead by a plan.
Five words carried the whole art: Before, After, Weak, Strong, Indes. After Liechtenauer.
